About nextplace
This is a little “where should we go this weekend” tool for families with young kids. It started in the Bay Area and is expanding to more cities. Every place was first picked by one standard: will a 2-year-old actually have fun? Short flat paths, ideally animals or water, restrooms, and parking that isn't a nightmare.
Toddler fit (weighted most) + in-season bonus + match with this weekend's weather + a drive-time penalty + a stroller bonus. “Decide for me” draws randomly weighted by score squared — high scorers come up more often, but it won't repeat the same place every time.
The home page pulls this weekend's (Saturday/Sunday) Open-Meteo forecast for your home city and presets the rainy/hot/cool/nice filter; each place's detail page also fetches the forecast at the destination itself — the coast and the hills are often different from home.
All places live in src/data/<metro>/places.ts — add an object, get a place. Hours and reservation policies change often; check the official site before you go.
