A half-mile fern-filled ravine in the southwest corner of Griffith Park: a little creek, stone footbridges and century-old shade, the coolest stroller walk in Los Angeles on a hot day; a 2-year-old will watch the water from a bridge for half an hour.

💡 Tips
The Trails cafe at the top of the dell has outdoor seating and pie; the Fern Dell playground is at the mouth. For the Observatory, head up the Western Canyon trail from here, about 2 miles round trip, good for ages 5 and up.
