A 1,700-acre estate donated by the Rockefeller family, with dozens of miles of smooth gravel carriage roads through woods, pastures and past Swan Lake; strollers and toddlers on foot both manage fine, you often see cows and turkeys, and it is the easiest trip into the hills anywhere near New York.

💡 Tips
The 1.6-mile Swan Lake loop is best for little kids; Stone Barns next door makes a half-day pairing. Fall is the prettiest but the lot fills early.
