Montgomery County's prettiest 50 acres of garden, all free: paved paths wind past the rose garden, a Japanese tea house, and two ponds with turtles and koi, two conservatories stay warm in winter, and the children's garden has hands-on things for little ones; at the summer Wings of Fancy butterfly exhibit ($) butterflies land on your hand.

💡 Tips
April tulips and azaleas, May wisteria, and fall chrysanthemums are each worth a dedicated trip. The butterfly exhibit runs May through September, about $8 per person; check the website. Wheaton Regional Park next door has the train and playground, an easy walk between the two.
