America's first garden cemetery, 175 acres of hills, ponds, and century-old trees: in spring it is Boston's holy ground for warbler watching, turtles line up in Auburn Lake, and the 62 steps of Washington Tower put the whole Boston skyline in front of you.

💡 Tips
It is a cemetery, so walk slowly, keep voices down, and no running or picnics — ideal for strolling a sleeping baby or taking an older kid who can follow rules to watch birds and climb the tower. The tower is open April through October; the visitor center at the gate has free maps and a bird checklist.
