    Best seasons: Summer

America's first public beach, opened in 1896: 3 miles of wide sand, small waves, summer lifeguards, and the Blue Line gets you there; the International Sand Sculpting Festival in late July builds castles two stories tall, and the roast beef sandwich at Kelly's Roast Beef is a local religion.

💡 Tips
The beach is very wide, so a 2-year-old has a real walk from the promenade to the water; bring a tent or big umbrella, as there is almost no shade. The sand sculpting weekend is packed, so take the T. The water runs cold, comfortable from July on.
