From late October to early March Bryant Park becomes a winter village: skating is free if you bring your own skates (rentals $), a ring of glass huts sells crafts and hot food, the carousel is $4, and it is the best free holiday outing in New York for little kids.

💡 Tips
On weekends you need to reserve a free skating slot online; penguin-shaped skating aids can be rented for kids. The children's floor of the new NYPL branch next door is the place to escape the cold.
