Boston's most famous winter scene: Frog Pond in the middle of Boston Common becomes an outdoor skating rink from November to March, beside the giant Christmas tree shipped every year from Nova Scotia; kids under 58 inches skate free (rentals extra), and there is hot chocolate rinkside.

💡 Tips
A 2-year-old cannot stay upright, but is perfectly happy watching from the side, playing in the snow, and looking at the tree; from about 4–5 years up you can rent skates and a skating aid. Weekends are crowded, so go at opening. The tree lighting is usually a Thursday evening in early December, mobbed but very worth it.
