An 1806 estate in Waltham where the mansion needs a ticket but the 45 acres of lawn and small farm are free to roam: sheep, goats, chickens, and turkeys in the pens hold a 2-year-old at the fence for ages, and the lawn is big enough to leave a 7-year-old out of breath. The sheepshearing festival in late April is Waltham's annual party.

💡 Tips
Strollers work on the grass. Come on weekends when the animals are all out; the sheepshearing festival charges admission and gets crowded but is very worth it. Moody St in Waltham is next door with plenty of food options.
