The best pick-your-own apples in the western suburbs: a tractor pulls you out to the orchard, the kids fill a bag themselves, then it's back to the pumpkin farm side for slides, a train, jumping pillows, and a corn maze, and finally the line for hot apple cider donuts — a full fall day out.

Open early September to late October; the orchard and pumpkin farm are priced separately, by person and by apple bag (check the website). Arrive on weekend mornings, since it's packed by noon. Wear shoes that can get dirty; the orchard is grass and works with a stroller.
