The Chicago Botanic Garden's 1.3-mile winter light trail: tunnels of light, trees dripping with lights, lasers over the lake and fountains set to music, and fire pits for marshmallows midway; bigger and more lavish than Illumination, and pricier too.

💡 Tips
Runs mid-November to early January; timed tickets must be bought online and weekends sell out early. It's a long route, so bring a stroller or carrier; it's closest for North Shore families, while western-suburb families face an hour's drive.
