A big free science museum: the two-story kelp forest tank in Ecosystems, a cave to crawl through and a desert gallery, Discovery Rooms reserved for kids under 7, plus the space shuttle Endeavour; big kids cannot see it all in a day.

💡 Tips
Permanent exhibits are free, IMAX and special exhibits are extra, and parking is $18. Endeavour is being moved into the new Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center, so check the website for its status. The Natural History Museum is next door and the rose garden beyond that; one day is not enough.
