Farms with animals for kids around New York
New York City still has a real farm: Queens County Farm has been worked since 1697, and admission is free to see the sheep, pigs, cows and bees. For something more rural, an hour's drive to Westchester brings the Rockefellers' Stone Barns and the completely free county-run Muscoot Farm.
To feed animals without leaving the city, the Tisch Children's Zoo at Central Park Zoo and the barn at Prospect Park Zoo both let kids feed sheep and goats. In fall every farm turns into a pumpkin patch and corn maze; see the apples and pumpkins guide.
