Libraries with great kids' areas around the South Bay
Bay Area libraries are some of the best free outings for little kids: big children's rooms, toys and puzzles, weekly storytimes, clean restrooms, and a dry, cool roof whatever the weather.
Mountain View (a whole kids' floor with a puppet theater), Mitchell Park in Palo Alto (a toddler nook next to the Magical Bridge Playground) and Milpitas (the county system's largest branch, with lots of Asian-language picture books) get our top rating for every age. Sunnyvale and Cupertino are easy local stops, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library is the big one in downtown San Jose, and the SF Main Library's Fisher Children's Center is worth a visit if you're in the city.
