Playgrounds worth the drive around Chicago
Every neighborhood park has a playground; this list has only the ones worth a drive: separate areas for a 2-year-old and an 8-year-old, shade or water, a restroom, and easy parking, in order of drive time from Naperville.
Maggie Daley Park is the ceiling for Chicago playgrounds, three themed acres with Crown Fountain across the bridge. West-suburban regulars are the Sensory Garden inclusive playground in Lisle and Naperville's new Wolf's Crossing, with a spray area and a sled hill; in the northwest, Bison's Bluff inside Spring Valley is all logs, boulders and water, and kids come out muddy. In the city, Oz Park has its Wizard of Oz statues, Indian Boundary Park pairs a big playground with a lagoon and a spray area, and Rehm Park in Oak Park runs into the pool in summer.

💡 Good to know
- Chicago playgrounds are too hot to touch at midday in summer; go before 10am or after 5pm, and favor plastic slides over metal.
- Pack a change of clothes: half the playgrounds here have spray areas or water-and-sand play, and the kids will get wet.
