Things to do with kids in Schaumburg

To local parents Schaumburg is more than Woodfield Mall: Spring Valley puts a nature center, a free 1880s farm and a playground of logs and boulders on 135 acres of prairie, a whole day without moving the car, and the library's children's area is one of the largest in Illinois.

On a sunny day go to Spring Valley, play in the water and sand at Bison's Bluff, then walk the trail to Volkening Farm to pet the sheep; or watch the elk at Busse Woods and ride the 8-mile paved loop, or walk the two miles around Lake Arlington. Rain or snow means the Schaumburg Township library or LEGOLAND Discovery Center by Woodfield. In fall, Goebbert's pumpkin farm in South Barrington is fifteen minutes north, and its pumpkin-eating dinosaur is a shared memory for every northwest-suburban kid.
