A 1,700-acre arboretum whose 4-acre Children's Garden has treehouses, streams, log bridges, and giant climbable acorns, with a lookout platform in the middle of the Maze Garden; drive the 9-mile loop and stop anywhere for a walk, and the fall maples are the best in the western suburbs.

💡 Tips
Admission is about $17–20/adult, a little less for kids, free under 1 (check the website; holidays cost more); a membership pays off fast for western-suburb families. Bring a change of clothes for the Children's Garden water area in summer. The Illumination light show runs in winter.
