A 2,000-plus-acre county park inside the Addicks Reservoir, and the big draw for kids is the free animal area: pens of American bison and emus, plus a row of peacocks, turkeys and parrots. Right next to the animals are a playground and picnic tables. A whole morning for $0.

💡 Tips
After heavy storms the park can close for several days while the reservoir holds water, so check Precinct 3 notices before you go. The animal area is on the War Memorial Dr side. Mosquitoes are fierce in summer; bring bug spray.
