Galveston's three glass pyramids: the Aquarium Pyramid has penguins, seals and a walk-through underwater tunnel, and in the Rainforest Pyramid monkeys, sloths and birds roam freely overhead. You can also take the Colonel paddlewheeler for a spin around the bay, and in summer add the Palm Beach water park. A full day that beats both rain and heat.

💡 Tips
About $30 per attraction or about $70 for an all-day pass (check the website); the two pyramids are plenty for little kids. Do the rainforest first in the morning (the animals are most active), then cool off in the aquarium in the afternoon. November and December evenings bring the Festival of Lights.
