Rainy day ideas for kids around Houston
Houston rain isn't Seattle drizzle; it's a downpour that floods streets, so an indoor plan needs to hold kids for two or three hours with parking close to the door. The good news is this city has enough museums and libraries for a whole rainy season.
Sugar Land has two small museums of its own, the Fort Bend Children's Discovery Center and HMNS Sugar Land, so you don't have to drive into town. If you do, Children's Museum Houston fills a whole day, with the dinosaurs and butterflies at HMNS and the giant body at The Health Museum next door, and the Downtown Aquarium even serves lunch beside the tanks. The Woodlands has its own children's museum, Clear Lake has Space Center, and both Moody Gardens pyramids in Galveston are indoors. Libraries are the free fallback: the children's areas at Sugar Land, Cinco Ranch, Bellaire and LSC-CyFair are good for a morning.
