Outings with a baby (0–1) around Houston
With a baby, what parents want is simple: flat paths, shade or air conditioning, a clean changing table, and the freedom to leave at any moment. Houston's problem is heat, so half this list is stroller paths through gardens and woods and the other half is museums and libraries.
In fall, winter and spring, walk McGovern Centennial Gardens in Hermann Park, the Eastern Glades boardwalk at Memorial Park and the shaded loops at the Houston Arboretum; Mercer Botanic Gardens in Spring is the prettiest stroller walk in the region. In summer, go to Tot*Spot at the Children's Museum or the Fort Bend Children's Discovery Center in Sugar Land. The Sugar Land, Cinco Ranch and Bellaire libraries run baby storytimes, and a ride on METRORail is a novelty even for an infant.

💡 Good to know
- From May to September, take a baby out only before 9am, with a clip-on fan and a sunshade on the stroller, and water in the car.
- Children's museums and libraries have changing tables; park restrooms may not, so keep a mat in the car.
