The best museums for kids around Houston
Museums are half of a Houston summer: the city has one of the top-ranked children's museums in the country, a world-class dinosaur hall and NASA's visitor center, and Sugar Land has two small museums of its own so not every trip means driving into town.
A 2-year-old heads for Tot*Spot and the FlowWorks water gallery at Children's Museum Houston, or the Fort Bend Children's Discovery Center in Sugar Land. A 7-year-old does the dinosaurs and the butterfly center at HMNS, then walks into a giant heart at The Health Museum; Space Center Houston with its tram into NASA is a full day, and the Lone Star Flight Museum lets kids climb into real cockpits. The Woodlands has a small, well-run children's museum for the north side.

💡 Good to know
- The Children's Museum, HMNS and The Health Museum in the Museum District all have free Thursday afternoons, and they are packed; weekend opening is the calmest.
- Parking in the Museum District is hard; park at a METRORail station and ride one stop, which the kids prefer anyway.
