The best playgrounds around Houston
Houston playgrounds come in two kinds: shaded and not. This list favors the ones with live oaks, water, restrooms and separate toddler and big-kid areas, and each place says when to go so the slides don't burn.
Levy Park in Upper Kirby is often called the best in the city, with giant climbing nets and a treehouse tower for big kids and swings under old oaks for little ones; the Discovery Green playground sits next to the fountain downtown, and Hermann Park's Buddy Carruth all-abilities playground is steps from the train and pedal boats. The suburban gems: the riverside playground at Sugar Land Memorial Park, the Katy Play Station wooden castle and the free pool at Mary Jo Peckham Park, the Alice sculptures at Evelyn's Park in Bellaire, the wooden castle at Donovan Park in the Heights, and Rob Fleming Park in The Woodlands with its splash pad.

💡 Good to know
- From May to September, playgrounds are for before 10am and after 6pm; slides and rails are too hot to touch at midday.
- Most parks have restrooms but not water fountains, so bring water. Weekend mornings are busiest and liveliest.
