Downtown Houston's 12-acre living room: the Gateway Fountain doubles as a free splash pad in summer, next to a playground, Kinder Lake with small boat rentals and lawns under rows of old oaks. There are free shows or kids' events almost every weekend year-round, and in winter it becomes an ice rink.

💡 Tips

Bring swimsuits and towels for the fountain; it's less crowded at 10am. The underground garage sometimes has event discounts on weekends. The Grove restaurant is right there, and you can also come by METRORail.
