Kid-friendly gardens around Houston
Gardens are the most underrated outing with kids: flat paths, restrooms, water, fish and a hill to climb, and a chance for parents to breathe. Houston's gardens are half free and half cheap, and they look good three seasons of the year.
McGovern Centennial Gardens in Hermann Park is free, its spiral mount is a 2-year-old favorite, and the Japanese Garden next door has koi. The Family Discovery Garden at the Houston Botanic Garden was built for kids, with a wading stream and water pumps, so bring a change of clothes. Mercer Botanic Gardens in Spring is free, shaded and the prettiest stroller walk in the region; Bayou Bend near Memorial is reached by a footbridge over the bayou, with azaleas peaking in March.

💡 Good to know
