U-pick with kids around Houston: strawberries, blueberries and farm days
Picking season comes early in Houston: strawberries ripen by late January and run through April, then blueberries from late May to early July. Strawberry rows are low and blueberry bushes short, so a 2-year-old can pick and eat standing up, which makes it the easiest morning of the season.
Thirty minutes west of Sugar Land, Blessington Farms pairs its strawberry field with Farm Funland, a half day of giant tube slides, sandboxes and small animals on one ticket. Froberg's in Alvin to the south is the old-school version: free entry, pay by the basket, strawberry pie on the way out. In June, pick blueberries at Chmielewski's in Hockley, which opens only for a few morning hours, then go feed animals and ride the train at Old MacDonald's Farm.

💡 Good to know
- Opening days depend on the crop; check the farm's Facebook or website. Fields are often picked clean by afternoon on weekends, so arrive by 10am.
- Bring hats, water, sunscreen and your own containers. Strollers don't work in strawberry rows; use a carrier. Cash or Venmo is easiest.
- By April the fields are hot by noon. Pick, pay, and leave; don't plan to linger.
