The Houston Public Library's main Jesse H. Jones Building has an entire children's library on the first floor, roomy and well stocked. After Discovery Green or the aquarium downtown, it's the most comfortable free air-conditioned rest stop.

💡 Tips
The central library has had renovations in recent years, so check the HPL website for open areas and storytime schedules before you go. Sundays are easiest for parking.
