Summer for Reston families: the Water Mine is a gold-rush-town-themed water park that's mostly knee-deep shallows, small slides, and big tipping buckets, built for kids under 10; the park itself has a carousel, a miniature train ($), boating on the lake, and a big playground, more than a day's worth.

💡 Tips
The Water Mine is open from late May to early September and closes to new entry on weekend afternoons when it hits capacity, so go in at the morning opening and buy tickets online. Rent a locker and bring sunscreen and water shoes. The train and carousel run on weekends spring through fall.
