A 160-acre park along Buffalo Bayou just west of downtown: the Barbara Fish Daniel Nature Play Area has rocks, sand and water to play in, the Johnny Steele Dog Park is great for watching dogs swim, and at dusk hundreds of thousands of bats pour out from under the Waugh bridge. Houston's most urban nature lesson.

💡 Tips
Paved the whole way, so strollers are no problem, but there's almost no shade; in summer go only early morning or evening. The Lost Lake visitor center has restrooms and coffee. For the bats, get to the viewing area on the east side of the Waugh Dr bridge 15 minutes before sunset.
