Missouri City's backyard: a 90-acre park wrapped around a big lake, with a flat paved loop that's easy to push, anglers along the shore, ducks and herons, and a playground by the entrance for when little legs give out.

Not many trees, so fall, winter and spring mornings are best; in summer the sun is brutal after 9am. Skip the bread crumbs and bring binoculars for birds. Pair it with the Sugar Land library or HMNS Sugar Land 10 minutes away for a half day.
