From late March to mid-April, the roadsides and pastures between Brenham and Chappell Hill fill with bluebonnets, the Texas state flower, in a carpet of blue to the horizon, and sitting the whole family down in them for photos is a Texas spring ritual. The Chappell Hill Bluebonnet Festival is usually the second weekend of April, with vendor booths, small animals and hayrides.

💡 Tips
Bloom timing depends on the weather, so check Washington County's wildflower updates before you go; Old Baylor Park (Independence) and FM 1155 are reliable spots year after year. Fire ants and the occasional snake hide in the flowers, so wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. Stop at the Blue Bell Creameries in Brenham on the way.
