A free state park in northeast Houston: the 82-foot John Jacob Observation Tower is the star, with views over the whole wetland, the distant downtown skyline and alligators sunning in the ponds. The pond loop below is flat and easy to push, and you can borrow fishing poles for free.

💡 Tips
The tower has stairs and no elevator, so little ones need to be carried, and it's windy at the top. The environmental learning center has free family programs on weekends. Almost no shade; skip it in summer.
